Booklist - Dan Kraus

"The quiz that opens this entry into the Get in the Game series quickly separates the newbies from the vets (e.g., if you think you should “tackle the girl playing second,” then you definitely need this book). After the reader is justifiably crestfallen or vindicated, Woodyard employs fairly dense paragraphs to explain the difference between slow-pitch and fast-pitch, breaks down the general rules, and, most impressively, spends three full pages helping beginners chose which position best suits them (“Do you like being in the middle of the action? Then head to the infield!”). After solid bits on batting, running, and stealing techniques, bolstered by smart sidebars (“Are you left-handed? Try playing first base”), Woodyard goes rather far afield, spending the rest of the book talking about fitness benefits and diet (including a recipe for Ballpark Crunch) and offering up a besides-the-point craft project. These strange elements may surprise gung ho girls, but could push the undecided off the fence." - Booklist

Library Media Connection - Patricia Walsh

"STAR REVIEW! Finally, books about sports for girls! Each book starts off with a quiz about the sport, which leads into the next chapter detailing the basics of the sport such as rules, positions, the field/court, etc. The books also contain information about how the sport is good for you mentally, physically, and gives tips on how girls can excel at the sport like eating properly and staying hydrated. The last chapter instructs girls on how to bond with teammates outside of the sport. Each book contains a healthy recipe for a snack and a craft that teammates could make together to stay healthy and bond. There are plenty of attractive photographs that will interest girls. Girls will like this series to learn about or improve in their favorite sport. Highly Recommended." - Library Media Connection
