MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – September 19, 2013 – Capstone, a leading publisher of children’s books and digital products and services, will announce a donation of 500,000 books, worth an estimated $5M, to Books for Africa at the organization’s 25th anniversary gala event on September 20. Books donated to the program include titles from the publishers’ imprints Capstone Press, Capstone Young Readers, Compass Point Books, Heinemann Raintree, Picture Window Books, and Stone Arch Books.

“We've had a great partnership with Books for Africa for several years now," said Maryellen Coughlan, Director of Corporate Giving at Capstone. “We share the same goal: getting books in the hands of children so they learn to read. Knowledge truly is power."

Books for Africa is a nonprofit organization based out of St. Paul, Minn., and has shipped more than 20 million books to 44 African countries since it was founded in 1988.

“We are honored to have this additional donation from Capstone,” said Patrick Plonski, Executive Director of Books for Africa. “Historically, Capstone is one of the most generous donors our organization has had, and we're thrilled to be able to announce this at our 25th anniversary gala."

The gala will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza St. Paul River Front Hotel in St. Paul, Minn. Several VIPs will be attending the event, including His Excellency Girma Birru, Ambassador of Ethiopia; Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, World YWCA General Secretary; Majid Michela a Ghanaian movie star; First Lady Anna Mkapa, Former First Lady of Tanzania and Chairperson of EOTF – Equal Opportunities for All Trust Fund and Dr. Anjimile Mtila Oponyo, Principal Secretary Responsible for Basic and Secondary Education in Malaw.
