Capstone Partners with GreaterGood.org to Donate Children's Books to Underserved Communities
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – March 28, 2019 – Capstone, a leading publisher of children’s books and digital products and services, is partnering with GreaterGood.org, a charitable organization devoted to improving the health and well-being of people, pets, and the planet, to donate more than 68,000 books to two nonprofit literacy organizations. The book donation will be split between grant recipients Bernie’s Book Bank, the leading provider of books to at-risk Chicagoland children, and Kids Need to Read, an organization providing books to underfunded schools, libraries and literacy programs across the United States.
“Capstone believes in kids — their dreams and their success — and we know that reading and literacy increases their opportunities. We're excited to partner with GreaterGood.org, Bernie’s Book Bank, and Kids Need to Read to help get books into the hands of kids in underserved communities who may not have the opportunity to own a book,” said Christie Skilbred, Capstone Corporate Giving and Literacy Center Manager.
The donated books will be distributed through each of the organization’s programs throughout the spring and summer. Capstone supports programs where literacy is modeled, supported, and celebrated. In 2018 alone, Capstone partnered with 175 organizations for book donations.
"Bernie’s Book Bank strives to distribute age-appropriate and high interest books to children from underserved communities in Chicagoland. The recent donation of children’s books courtesy of Capstone and GreaterGood.org means that 20,000 kids will receive one of these beautiful books in their next book bag. We cannot wait to get these books into the hands of the children we serve and truly appreciate this support of our mission," said Sara Harty, Bernie’s Book Bank New Book Acquisitions Manager.
Kids Need to Read receives multiple requests for books every day from schools, public libraries, disaster areas, transition homes, mental health facilities and more, all in desperate need of books to help foster a hopeful future for the disadvantaged children they serve.
"A windfall of beautiful new books such as these from Capstone through GreaterGood.org enable Kids Need to Read to respond to the daily pleas we receive for donations with relevant, fascinating, and inspiring books to help children discover the power and joy of a literate mind," said Denise Gary, Co-founder and Executive Director of Kids Need to Read.
