Capstone Announces Katie Woo Contest Winners, Kids' Designs to Appear in Forthcoming Books
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Jan. 15, 2015 – Capstone, a leading publisher of children’s books and digital products and services, announce the winners in its Katie Woo inspired design contest for fans in grades K-3. The nationwide competition “Katie Woo’s Super Stylish Contest” encouraged children to use their imagination to create a one-of-a-kind outfit for Capstone’s best-selling spunky character who celebrates her 5th anniversary in 2015.
The winning designs will be featured in two forthcoming Katie Woo titles, set for publication in Spring 2016. The winners also receive a Katie Woo Book Club Kit, which includes six titles and goodies such as bookmarks, a poster, and pencil.
The winning designers are:
Erika Ahn– Kindergartener at South Grove Elementary School in Syosset, N.Y.
Best Pant/Skirt: Erika’s winning design showcased a vibrant, multi-tiered ruffle skirt in a rainbow of colors.
Jade Davis– 3rd grader at West Elementary School in Elvins, Mo.
Best Top: Jade’s winning look featured a dazzling, sparkly gold 3/4-sleeve cardigan perfect for a special occasion.
Kate Lin– 2nd grader atSouth Grove Elementary School in Syosset, N.Y.
Best Outfit: A real show stopper,Kate designed a spectacularly bold, floral print kimono.
Sophia Thibodeaux –2nd graderat T.S. Cooley Elementary School in Lake Charles, La.
Best Accessories: Sophia’s winning sketch has Katie Woo looking très chic in delicate gloves and coordinating necklace, belt, and purse.
Katie Woo author Fran Manushkin and illustrator Tammie Lyon helped judge the competition.
“I loved judging this contest, but it was hard! The designs were so imaginative and fun. Katie Woo would love wearing any of them. I hope Katie Woo fans will keep reading and drawing!,” said Manushkin.
Lyon added, “I really enjoyed seeing the wonderful creations that everyone came up with. Choosing winners was very tough. Katie Woo fans are the best and I'm happy that they are getting to contribute to the upcoming books!”
