Library Media Connection - Kristine Wildner
Focusing on primary sources and essential questions, this series provides elementary readers with concise text and an abundance of quality historical photographs, documents, and artwork. Although some of the information is necessarily repetitive, each book uniquely relates a slightly different point of view. Chapters follow a chronological, narrative format, answering key questions. Text boxes encourage children to think in-depth about the primary sources and encourage attention to detail and abstract analysis. Numerous quotes and vignettes of individuals affected by the war add an important personal perspective. The series’ organization encourages readers to skim for key information. With a large font and an attractive pictorial layout, the series is accessible not only to young students, but also to older, struggling students. The emphasis is on multiple points of view, understanding others, and reflecting on the people and events of the war. Bibliography. Glossary. Timeline. Table of Contents.
