Arlington Independent School District - Joanna Wasden
This book is in the series, "Scientists At Work", in which each book discusses different careers in science like Paleontology, Volcanology, Oceanography, Space, and more. I really think children who like reading about dinosaurs will enjoy this book on paleontologists. It has great photographs of paleontologists doing field studies and digs. This book includes: table of contents, diagrams, photographs, timeline, glossary, further reading list, websites, and an index. —Joanna Wasden, Library Media Specialist, Bryant School Arlington Independent School District2/11/2009

This introductory book from the Scientists at Work series explains what a paleontologist is and does. It has excellent photographs that accompany the text and increase its explanatory value. The book includes a brief review of the history of life in the past, indicating that fossils provide evidence of that life and of the past climate. It also includes a discussion of trace fossils (such as footprints), fossils found in amber, and things that have been preserved in peat bogs. The book includes a glossary, sources for further reading, and Web sites that can be explored to identify places where fossils might be found. It is appropriate for the public library and the elementary school library, and the reading level is from about fourth grade to early middle school, especially for students who speak limited English. Science Books & Films March 2011
