Library Media Connection - Karen Scott, Media Specialist, Thompson Middle School, Alabaster, Alabama
This is a very informative and entertaining series of books that covers fish, insects, arachnids, mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles. Each books contains the same information about the animal classification and animal phyla. At the end of each book there is an index, glossary, further resources, and a book ID the students can use in order to retrieve appropriate and accurate Web sites at www.facthound.com. While the use of these books for research on specific animals would be limited, the color photos alone are worth the purchase price. Each volume contains wonderful photographs of familiar species and unfamiliar species. The information is placed around the pictures. Browsers and animal lovers will be attracted by the bright colors of the covers and the inside pages. The captions give specifics and at times unique informationabout the species pictured. In each volume the readerlearns how the speciesmove, what they eat, where they live, how they reproduce, and additional informationthrough the color diagram of the inside of the species' body. This series of books will be a welcome addition to most collections and the students who check out animal books willdefinitely gravitate toward these. Readers may walk away with new information to add to their animal knowledge repertoire. Recommended
