PebbleGo Next Science Named Best Educational Technology for Students
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – May 3, 2017 – Capstone’s PebbleGo Next: Science database has been recognized by ComputED Gazette for positively impacting student learning with the 2017 BESSIE Award. The award honors innovative and content-rich programs and websites that provide teachers and parents with the technology to foster educational excellence.
Winning in the upper elementary, online science program category, PebbleGo Next: Science introduces science content targeted to grades 3-5 curriculum. Launched in July 2016, the database groups content into broad categories – earth science, physical science, life science, and the field of science – and features more than 150 articles, all aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. Each of the articles includes: a project or activity related to the topic, a research report template, critical thinking questions, a video (when available), and information-rich text. Additionally, videos of experiments are available for most of the main search categories.
“Science content is abundant, and the program's scaffolding and clean design simplify segments so they are easily grasped by this age group,” said ComputEd Gazette. “The program abounds with science facts and illustrations, and high quality videos add a wonderful dimension to the lessons. In addition, there is read-aloud audio and text-to-speech highlighting to aid struggling readers and/or English Language Learners. Enough cannot be said about this age-appropriate, comprehensive science database.”
PebbleGo Next includes expertly levelled text with read-aloud audio recorded by professional voice over artists to provide essential scaffolds to make content accessible for all learners. PebbleGo Next employs a streamlined interface, animated highlighting, educational videos and games, and encompassing activities which teach students how to cite articles, create reports, and share what they’ve learned. The database is available over the Internet 24/7 as an annual subscription for enrolled students.
