In Addition to Macs and PCs, Personalized Literacy Environment Now Available Through iPads, Other Mainstream Tablets
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – June 25, 2012 – With the wide variety of mobile devices available, school administrators are looking for integrated programs that provide students with anytime, anywhere access to educational resources – regardless of which devices students use. Capstone Digital, developer of personalized learning environments for students, announces new mobile capabilities that make myON™ accessible through virtually every mobile platform, including the iPad® and Android™-powered tablets.
“As more schools and educators move to embrace mobile learning as a key component to students’ learning and development, Capstone Digital supports mobile initiatives with products and services that enable simple yet meaningful integration,” said Todd Brekhus, president of Capstone Digital. “Extending myON reader access to all major mobile platforms is essential because it provides students with a flexible learning environment and increased exposure to reading and digital books.”
With this new mobile device compatibility, students, educators and parents may now access the myON reader personalized literacy environment through Macs, PCs, iPads, Kindle Fire tablets and most Android devices equipped with Android OS version 3.0 or higher. Once securely logged in through myON.com, users gain full access to more than 2,600 books with multimedia supports such as embedded dictionary, highlighting and audio. The mobile myON reader experience is identical to what users see on their computers, meaning all of the literacy environment’s personalization features – including student profiles and recommended book lists – remain intact.
“Usage of the myON platform soared in our district this past year, and we’ve begun implementing 6,500 iPads district-wide,” said Connie Dopierala, media services coordinator at Charleston County School District. “We look forward to deploying the new mobile platform this fall not only in our 1:1 schools, but across the entire district. We anticipate that this flexible environment will continue to boost student reading and extend learning beyond the classroom.”
In addition to customizing the reading experience, myON provides a collaborative reading environment where students, educators and parents work together to support student reading performance. The online platform uses cloud-based technology to connect school and home through universal access to an expanding library of digital books. The cloud creates a safe social network where students can read, rate, review and recommend digital books to their classmates.
“When converting our library of digital books to the mobile environment, we made a point to retain every piece of myON reader’s functionality,” said Brekhus. “Everything users can do with myON from their computers, they can also do with their mobile devices. myON reader offers parallel user experiences that empower students to take ownership of their literacy development, whether they’re in a computer lab or reading on a mobile device.”
Since myON reader launched in January 2011, students have logged on to read more than 3.5 million books. For more information about myON Mobile, visit www.thefutureinreading.com/mobile.
